What to Wear for Portraits

September 04, 2012  •  1 Comment

Many of my customers ask me, " What do I need to wear?" So in response to that question, I have decided to write this blog to hopefully guide you to the perfect outfit for your portraits, with LOTS of examples. :)

This Family is a great example of what to wear. The Boys wore light blue outfits and the girls wore white and khaki. No one is wearing anything that is tight or unflattering to their bodies. And no one person stands out from everyone in the family portrait.

When in doubt, wear something white. It is a non distracting color and always is complimentary to your skin tone. Do you really want people staring at your outfit or do you want them admiring the subject (Your Child)?

This family is another great example. The Mom wore a white button up shirt with khaki pants, the dad wore a light blue button up shirt with khaki pants, and the son wore a light striped button up shirt with khaki pants. Even though that aren't too matchy, they look great! Also, that V-neck LINE that the open collar creates, is very flattering to any woman.

This is another great example of what you could wear for couples or engagement photos. Just make sure that the shirt that you pick is not too skin tight, because that is NEVER flattering. Bare feet are always good because it is more natural!

Of course for Senior Portraits, let your personality SHOW! Bring sports jersey, your favorite outfit, hats, sunglasses, ect... But also bring one plain button up shirt and a nice pair of pants for that special picture for Mom. :)

And don't forget your Accessories. They can really help tell your story of who you are.

Maternity Photos. White Button up shirts and Jeans look great! Also Long flowing dresses.

In general, try to avoid busy patterns and LOUD colors. No one in the photo should stand out from the rest of the group. Deciding on the right outfit, can really make a photo wonderful. That is why it is so important to put thought into what you wear. :)

If you are still unsure of what you want to wear for your portrait session, feel free to text me some pictures and ask questions. I am dedicated to making your session, with me, a successful one, and I care about what you look like.
